Christmas Yule Log Cake Recipe: A Festive Holiday Delight

Christmas Yule Log Cake Recipe

Ingredients

Chocolate Sponge Cake

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 4 large eggs, separated

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cream Filling

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Ganache Frosting

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Directions

Prepare the Sponge Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 15x10-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla.

  • In a third bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form, then gently fold them into the yolk mixture.

  • Gently fold dry ingredients into the egg mixture until smooth. Spread evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.

Roll the Cake

  • Lay a clean kitchen towel on a flat surface and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

  • Once the cake is done, immediately invert it onto the towel. Carefully remove the parchment and roll the cake in the towel to form a log shape. Allow it to cool.

Make the Cream Filling

  • In a mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

Assemble the Yule Log Cake

  • Unroll the cooled cake, spread the cream filling evenly, and re-roll it without the towel.

Prepare the Ganache Frosting

  • Heat the heavy cream until just simmering, pour over chocolate chips, and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth.

Decorate the Cake

  • Spread ganache over the log and use a fork to create a “bark” texture. Decorate with powdered sugar “snow,” holly berries, or mini meringue mushrooms for a festive touch!

Serving Suggestions

Pecan pie is delicious on its own, but it’s even better with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Serve it warm for a cozy treat or at room temperature for a classic dessert.

Tips

  • Dust with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.

  • Add holly or rosemary sprigs for a festive presentation.

  • Use meringue mushrooms to complete the look!
