Christmas Yule Log Cake Recipe
Ingredients
Chocolate Sponge Cake
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs, separated
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream Filling
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate Ganache Frosting
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
Directions
Prepare the Sponge Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 15x10-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla.
In a third bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form, then gently fold them into the yolk mixture.
Gently fold dry ingredients into the egg mixture until smooth. Spread evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
Roll the Cake
Lay a clean kitchen towel on a flat surface and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Once the cake is done, immediately invert it onto the towel. Carefully remove the parchment and roll the cake in the towel to form a log shape. Allow it to cool.
Make the Cream Filling
In a mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
Assemble the Yule Log Cake
Unroll the cooled cake, spread the cream filling evenly, and re-roll it without the towel.
Prepare the Ganache Frosting
Heat the heavy cream until just simmering, pour over chocolate chips, and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth.
Decorate the Cake
Spread ganache over the log and use a fork to create a “bark” texture. Decorate with powdered sugar “snow,” holly berries, or mini meringue mushrooms for a festive touch!
Serving Suggestions
Pecan pie is delicious on its own, but it’s even better with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Serve it warm for a cozy treat or at room temperature for a classic dessert.
Tips
Dust with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.
Add holly or rosemary sprigs for a festive presentation.
Use meringue mushrooms to complete the look!
